What
is Vanguard Women's Foundation? Vanguard
Women's Foundation is
a charitable organization dedicated to assisting women
to realize their potential in their chosen field of
endeavor.
-
How
does Vanguard Women's Foundation assist these women? Vanguard
Women's Foundation organizes and sponsors Mentor
Workshops that foster new relationships
with other women who have overcome the barriers, and
achieved success in their professions. These workshops
also give the added hope to the young women by demystifying
their journey and helping them establish a network
in their field.
-
Who
are the women that you will help? The
organization will seek out women who have demonstrated
potential and have a need for professional contacts
and/or mentoring in their chosen area of pursuit. The
professions that Vanguard Women’s Foundation
will address are the performing arts, literature, visual
arts, and law.
-
How
can I become one of those women? Please Contact
Us by E-mail or letter, or have
a representative from your school contact us on your
behalf.
-
What
do you mean by self-actualization? "[Becoming]
more and more what one is and everything that one is
capable of [becoming]" Abraham Maslow, 1908-1970.
Dr. Maslow's theories went above and beyond Freudian
theory and behaviorism and pointed humanity to the
ethereal without discounting our human reality and
frailties. For those interested in Dr. Maslow and his
life's work, see http://www.ship.edu/~cgboeree/maslow.html
-
What
is a mentor? The
etymology is from Latin and Greek MentOr
- capitalized
: a friend of Odysseus entrusted
with the education of Odysseus'
son Telemachus
- trusted
counselor or guide, tutor or coach.
- Vanguard
Women's Foundation defines mentor
as a
woman who has attained a certain
success in a specific field and
is able and willing to pass her
knowledge along to young women
entering that field.
-
How
can I help Vanguard Women's Foundation? Since
we are a relatively new foundation, we are actively
seeking input from women on how to make or organization
better. Please Contact
Us by E-mail or letter, or visit our Donations page
for information on contributing to the foundation.
-
What
women have already been recognized by Vanguard
Women's Foundation? Recently
we recognized women's activist, Susan B. Anthony, for
her courage and conviction, and Sacagawea, a Shoshone
Indian, who guided the Lewis & Clark expedition
across what is now the western United States and into
history. As remarkable as were the accomplishments
of the expedition, she is the only member commemorated
on United States currency.
