"My
commitment to Vanguard
Women's Foundation lies
in the hope that we will empower women in a
way that is different than opportunities currently available
to the participants. My particular interest in the arts
and law lies in the
belief that these fields
offer uniquely powerful platforms for women to
influence our society in positive ways. We are striving
to help women avoid getting bogged down in the day to day "business" of
having
a successful career in these fields. It may not be a man's
world any
longer, but it is still a masculine world when it comes
to excelling in
a traditional way in most arenas. Mentoring of women by
women, both
from successful careers in the arts and from other areas,
is an
opportunity that most women have difficulty achieving on
their own. Through the mentoring program we can help women
in the fields of the
arts and law find the feminine path to success and a voice
in our world." Karen

The
primary function of Vanguard Women's Foundation is
to sponsors mentor
workshops that create environments
where interactivity occurs
between
women
of various
races,
cultures
and backgrounds so they can learn from each other
and grow together in the spirit of freedom, creativity
and mutual respect.

Vanguard
Women's Foundation also
recognizes individual women who best exemplify
a self-actualized individual and who have demonstrated
outstanding leadership. Recently we recognized
women's activist, Susan B. Anthony, for her courage
and conviction, and Sacagawea, a Shoshone Indian,
who guided the Lewis & Clark expedition across
what is now the western United States and into
history. As remarkable as were the accomplishments
of the expedition, she is the only member commemorated
on United States currency.
